Naviate Accelerate July Release 2023.1.5

Updates in Naviate Accelerate. Highlights include the new feature Align Views, and updates to Publish, Create Sheets, Duplicate Views, Place Views, Place Legends and Export/Import.

Changes is available in version 2023.1.5

Login and startup changes to all applications

All Naviate 23.1.5 applications for Revit now uses your default browser for logging into Naviate. You still use your Symetri account and password as before; instead of getting a separate dialog box for entering your email and password your default browser is used.

You can close the page after you have logged in.

You only need to update one of your Naviate applications to get the new login functionality but we recommend that you use latest released version of your applications.

New! Align Views

The Align Views feature allows you to align views on sheets either using coordinate or matching the viewport location of an existing view on a sheet. You can select from all views on a sheet, preview their coordinates in a data grid, and then modify them to align them. You can do this using the data grid functionality of fill increment, fill copy, fill custom increment, or search & replace. You can also view the sheets’ Title Block coordinates to verify/modify location of title Blocks.

If you have used the ‘Show view location’ option in the ‘Edit Sheet Parameters’ feature, you will notice the similarities between that function and the new Align Views ‘Align using coordinates’ function.

To align views exactly as an existing views viewport location, toggle to ‘Align to View’ and select a view to align to. This will automatically modify the Viewport X & Y values to match the view chosen to align to. You will only be able to view but not modify these values in the data grid.

Publish NWC and IFC

For both the NWC and IFC export, the configuration settings have been updated to allow you to select multiple views to be exported in the same configuration. The user interface (UI) has been updated to allow you to save selected views, use a prefix to select views, and show you info about the views included.

We made the following improvements to the configuration settings for both NWC and IFC exports:

  • UI updated to have a ‘What to Export’ section.
  • UI now shows how many views will be exported.
  • Added Info button to show what views are exported.
  • You can select what views to export and save to a view set.
  • You can use one or multiple prefixes to filter what views are selected.
  • You can name exported views with only the view name or choose to include the project name.

You can now select multiple views and save them to a view set.

Or use a view name prefix to filter which views are exported based on the prefix used. You can select multiple prefixes by using a semicolon (;) between each prefix.

Create Sheets

The Create Sheets feature has been updated to include a more user-friendly interface, easier selection of template sheet, and an updated ‘Sheet Parameters’ & ‘Views’ tab.

The following improvements have been made to the Create Sheets feature:

  • Selection of current/linked project is in the main UI.
  • View all sheets for template sheet selection in the main UI.
  • Preview of template sheet is moved to the Views tab.
  • ‘Sheet Parameters’ tab is now the default tab when feature is opened.
  • ‘View Name’ and ‘Title on Sheet’ parameters have been added to the ‘Sheet Parameters’ tab.
  • ‘Sheet Number’ and ‘Sheet Name’ parameters have been added to the ‘Views’ Tab.
  • Preselection of template sheet is now available. If you have a sheet open or select a sheet in the project browser, that sheet will automatically be selected as the template sheet when opening the feature.

Duplicate Views

The previous ‘Duplicate Dependent Views’ feature has now been renamed to ‘Duplicate Views’ and has expanded functionality to duplicate more than just dependent views. We have added an option to duplication by option and scope box. You can now select from the options to duplicate, duplicate with detailing, and duplicate as dependent.

The following improvements have been made to the Duplicate Views feature:

  • Updated user interface for improved options and workflow.
  • Option to specify naming convention for duplicated views. You can select parameters or text to combine to create a naming convention.
  • Ability to see view data before it is duplicated in a data grid. Ability to modify view name in data grid.
  • Added option to Duplicate Views by scope box and options. You can select to duplicate, duplicate with detailing, or duplicate as dependent. You can select from all scope boxes in the project and will duplicate a view per scope box.

Workflow for Duplicating from Existing Setup

For the previous functionality of Duplicating dependent views, select the ‘duplicate views from existing setup’ option which will allow to select from existing dependent views in the project. Then select the primary views to copy the dependent views to. This workflow is the same as the previous version. However now you will be able to specify a naming convention for the new views and then select apply/append to preview the new views in the data grid below. You can then modify the names as needed and select ‘Duplicate’ to create the views.

Workflow for Duplicating by Scope box and options

This is the new functions added to the duplicate views feature. You can now select from the three Revit duplication options: duplicate, duplicate with detailing, and duplicate as dependent. Then you can select from one or multiple scope boxes in the project to use for duplicating. If there are multiple scope boxes selected, then a view will be created for each Scope box. You will then follow the same workflow as the ‘Duplicate views from existing setup’ by selecting primary views to copy, creating a naming convention, then apply/appending to view/modify in the data grid below and finally creating the views by selecting to ‘Duplicate View’.

Place Views and Place Legends

Place Views

The previous ‘Place Views on Sheets’ allowed you to either select a legend and copy it to multiple other sheets or select a view which is used to place other views on existing sheets in the same location. We separated the previous ‘Place View on Sheets’ feature into ‘Place Views’ and ‘Place Legends’.

The ‘Place Views’ feature allows you to select a template view on a sheet to match the location and viewport type. This is the same functionality as the previous ‘Place Views on Sheets’ feature with an improved workflow. You can either preselect a view on a sheet before running the command or select a view afterwards in the user interface.

If you choose to not use a template view to match the viewport and placement, you will be able to fill in any viewport type from your project and select from 9 placement options: top, top left, top right, middle, middle left, middle right, bottom, bottom left, and bottom right.

Place Legends

The previous ‘Place Views on Sheets’ allowed you to select a legend and copy it to multiple other sheets. This functionality was maintained, and the function was renamed to ‘Place Legends’. This feature was moved in the toolbar to sit in a dropdown with the ‘Manage Legends’ feature as well as being added to the Naviate Modify ribbon. Now if you select a Legend view, you will be able to see ‘Place Legends’ in the Naviate modify ribbon.

Export/Import

The Export/Import feature has been improved to include a new user interface (UI), added option to export a selection of elements, and added options for exporting schedules.

Export Schedule

For the functionality of exporting Revit schedules, the improvements include the following:

  • Option to export ‘As in Revit’ which will maintain the Revit schedule formatting of organization, sorting, and filtering while still allowing you to re-import the data back into Revit. This option is only for category schedules and does not include note blocks or key schedules.
  • Note that this only allows you to edit data if all instances are itemized in the Revit schedule.
  • Option to export ‘Simplified’ is the previous version which allows you to export for re-import however does not maintain the formatting in the Revit schedule. This does include note blocks and key schedules.
  • You can select to hide a few tabs in excel when exporting to get a cleaner excel file.
  • You can now modify type parameters in the separate type parameters tab in the excel file

Export Selection

The new functionality for exporting a selection allows you to preselect elements to export their data to excel. This includes the ability to export multiple categories at once. By default, all parameters of selected categories will be exported. You can also create parameter filters to specify which parameters to export.

The functionality for exporting a selection of elements includes:

  • Ability to export all parameters of selected elements.
  • Parameter filter to select specific parameters to export.
  • Setting to organize elements in excel file per category or per family.
  • Ability to export type parameters and modify values of type parameters.
  • Partial preview of data in UI to preview before export.

Import

The import functionality has also been improved for the import of the export functions. When you import an Excel file that was created as a schedule export set to the ‘Simplified’ option, the import will be the same as before where you can select the excel sheet to import.

When you import an Excel file that was created with either of the two new functions which are as a schedule export set to the ‘As in Revit’ option or as a selection export, the import will show a preview of the data before it is imported.
